Why the Mercado de San Miguel?
It is one of Madrid's best-known food markets, housed in an early 20th-century iron structure beside Plaza Mayor. The appeal for a group is to experience the market the way anyone would: wandering from stall to stall and choosing what to try. It is part of the Marca Condal venue selection in Madrid (Marca Condal is a company in our group), as an activity within city-centre programmes.
It suits incentive travel, the free evening of a company convention and light-touch team building for small and medium-sized groups.

Getting there
The market is at Plaza de San Miguel, s/n, next to Plaza Mayor. Sol (metro and Cercanías commuter trains) and Ópera are a few minutes' walk away. For coach groups, the practical option is to drop the group at a nearby point and walk in through the old town.
Production tips
- Script the evening. It works best with a host who guides the group around the stalls and a clear meeting point.
- Timing. The market fills up at peak times. Ask about the quieter slots.
- Keep payment simple. Agreeing in advance how each guest pays at the stalls avoids queues and confusion.
- Plan what comes next. Combine it with drinks or dinner at a nearby venue and round off the night in the centre.
