Why choose a hotel for your convention?
A convention hotel handles in one building what another venue would require you to coordinate across several: plenary, breakout rooms, coffee breaks, lunches, dinner and bedrooms. For attendees it means fewer transfers and more productive time; for the organiser, a single main contract and one contact at the hotel. In Madrid it is the most common choice for company conventions, sales kick-offs and multi-day meetings.
How to choose the right hotel
- Main room capacity in the set-up you will actually use, not the maximum theatre-style figure.
- Enough breakout rooms, close to the plenary, without changing floors at every break.
- Bedrooms for the whole group in the same hotel, or a second hotel nearby.
- Location according to how the group arrives: airport, Atocha or Chamartín.
- Space for dinner inside the hotel or elsewhere, if you want a change of scene.
- Terms: day delegate rates, minimum spends, build hours and the room release schedule.
Madrid areas for convention hotels
- A-2 corridor and the IFEMA area. Close to the airport and the exhibition centre. Practical for international groups and for conventions that coincide with a trade show.
- Northern Castellana. High-rise hotels next to the Cuatro Torres business complex, with large ballrooms and views over the city, close to Chamartín.
- Chamartín and Cuzco. Classic convention hotels on the financial axis, with good links to the centre.
- Centre. Hotels with more character and less meeting space, for small conventions or as accommodation combined with an external venue.

A few details to help you decide:
- Madrid Marriott Auditorium. Of the hotels compared, this is the one most like a convention centre, with 54 column-free rooms, about 5 km from the airport. It suits large conventions that want everything under one roof.
- Eurostars Madrid Tower. It occupies a 31-storey, 236-metre tower on the Castellana. Its main ballroom holds 1,000 people for a banquet, and the views are a strong argument for the dinner.
- NH Collection Eurobuilding. A classic on the Castellana-Chamartín axis, with 412 bedrooms and combinable rooms for 1,000 people for a banquet or drinks reception.
- Meliá Castilla. One of the hotels with the most bedrooms in the city, with its own auditorium, very practical for accommodating large groups close to the financial district.

What if your event outgrows a hotel?
When a convention goes beyond 1,500 or 2,000 people, or needs a commercial exhibition, it is worth looking at the Palacio Municipal de IFEMA and combining it with several nearby hotels. It is also common to keep the plenary at a hotel and move the gala dinner to a unique venue in the centre. We explain this under convention centres and unique venues.
