At a residential convention, the hotel shapes almost everything else: budget, logistics, atmosphere and even the kind of social programme you can run. Madrid has plenty of hotels with meeting rooms, but few that can accommodate hundreds of people and bring them together in a single plenary. This comparison covers the hotels with the most meeting capacity according to Madrid Convention Bureau profiles, grouped by area, and explains how to choose according to the format of your event.
A note before the tables: the maximum capacity column is the figure Madrid Convention Bureau publishes in its listing, without specifying the layout. Where a hotel's profile gives details of its main room, we show them separately. Some profiles give different figures in the table and in the description (for example, the number of meeting rooms at the Meliá Castilla or the NH Collection Eurobuilding); we use the table figure and recommend confirming with the hotel.

| Avenida de América, Salamanca and O'Donnell | High-capacity hotels between the centre and the airport | Conventions of 300 to 800 with good access to the airport motorway |

Madrid Marriott Auditorium. Madrid's big congress hotel: 869 rooms and the Centro de Congresos Príncipe Felipe on the ground floor, with a 2,000-seat auditorium, 2,471 m² of exhibition galleries and 54 meeting rooms, according to the MCB. It is at Avenida de Aragón, 400, 5 km from the airport, with 1,000 parking spaces. In 2027 it hosts the IATA Ground Handling Conference and the FIDES conference. See the venue profile for the Madrid Marriott Auditorium.
Meliá Barajas. At Avenida de Logroño, 305, 2 km from the airport and next to IFEMA, according to the MCB. Its Castilla 1 room holds 450 people theatre-style. It suits meetings of 100 to 400 people and trade show groups.
The rest of the area. Novotel Campo de las Naciones, AC Hotel Madrid Feria and Axor Barajas also appear among IFEMA's official partner hotels. They are good hotels for spreading the room allocation of a congress at IFEMA, but their meeting rooms are mid-sized: the large plenary will go in the exhibition centre or at the Marriott.
When to choose this area. When the convention or congress is held at IFEMA, when the group is flying in from many countries or when the programme is intensive and you do not need to head into the centre every evening.

It makes a convention of more than a thousand people possible with the group staying right in the city centre.
The Palace Hotel Madrid. 470 rooms and 20 meeting rooms, with a maximum capacity of 450 according to the MCB listing. Next to the Paseo del Prado, it suits mid-sized conventions, gala dinners and leadership meetings.

When to choose this area. For incentives, conventions with a full social programme and international groups who want to experience the city. Bear in mind the traffic and loading restrictions on central streets if you have large set-ups.

How to choose a convention hotel
1. Start with the plenary. Count attendees and the layout: theatre, classroom or banquet can halve the capacity. Banquet almost always holds fewer people than theatre: in the Madrid ballroom at the RIU Plaza España, 1,540 theatre-style against 848 for a banquet.
2. Count the rooms you need at the same time. If you are running simultaneous workshops, you need rooms free at the same hour, not just in the brochure.
3. Bedrooms and meeting rooms in the same contract. Negotiate the room block and use of meeting space together. Check the cut-off dates and the percentage you can release without penalty.
4. Check the calendar. A week with a major congress at IFEMA or with FITUR changes prices and availability across the city. You will find it in the Madrid trade show and congress calendar 2027.
5. Think about the evenings. If you dine out every night, a hotel next to the airport means coaches. If dinners are in the hotel, you save time.
6. Check loading access. For stage sets or cars in the ballroom, ask about goods lifts, ceiling heights and loading times.
Madrid's hotel supply in figures
According to the Madrid Convention Bureau infographic, published in 2023, Madrid had 306 hotels, 38,302 rooms and 76,354 hotel beds. Of these, 151 hotels were four-star, with 23,272 rooms, and 35 were five-star, with 5,955. In other words, most of the capacity for groups is in the four-star category, which is also where most of the hotels in this comparison sit.
