Unique venues in Madrid by capacity: from 30 to over 5,000 guests

To choose a unique venue in Madrid, start with the capacity in the format you need: the same space does not hold the same number of people for a reception, a banquet or a theatre-style session. Here are palaces, theatres, museums, stadiums and industrial halls sorted into four bands, with capacities taken from official websites and the Madrid Convention Bureau, plus tips for choosing.

Unique venues in Madrid by capacity: from 30 to over 5,000 guests

A unique venue is one that gives the event its character on its own: a palace, a theatre, a museum, a stadium or a converted industrial hall. Madrid has a wide and varied choice, but not every venue works for everything. The first filter is capacity, and capacity depends on format: a room that holds 600 people theatre-style may drop to 300 seated for dinner. This guide sorts the venues by number of guests and by format, with figures from each venue's official website and from the Madrid Convention Bureau listings.

How to read a unique venue's capacity

Format What it means Rule of thumb
Theatre Chairs in rows facing the stage The highest figure for a seated room
Classroom Tables and chairs in rows Around half the theatre figure
Banquet Round tables for lunch or dinner Drops sharply with a stage and dance floor
Reception Standing guests with roaming service The highest of all, but needs bars and circulation space

Three warnings before you use the tables:

  • They are maximums with the room empty. A stage with an LED screen and a technical booth can take away 15 or 20% of places. We always draw a scale floor plan.
  • Some listings contain inconsistencies. We have seen totals that do not match the sum of the rooms. In this guide we use the figure for each room, which is the most reliable, and you should confirm it with the venue at the site visit.
  • The licensed capacity is what counts. If the brochure and the activity licence disagree, the licence applies.

Up to 100 people

For committee dinners, leadership meetings or an evening for VIP clients. In this band what matters is privacy, the quality of the food and a space that does not feel empty.

Espacio Larra Tribunal, Calle Larra Building hall n/a n/a 80
Châteauform' Finca El Bosque Pezuela de las Torres Galope Largo 28 50 70

n/a: no published figure for that format.

When to choose each one. The Casino de Madrid and the Palacio de Santoña offer historic salons right in the centre, a few minutes' walk from the hotels around Sol and the Barrio de las Letras. El Jardín de Arzábal is in the Sabatini building of the Reina Sofía museum, next to Atocha, and pairs well with an art visit. Châteauform' is something else: an estate about 50 minutes from Madrid, with 11 meeting rooms and outdoor activities, designed for working sessions and creative workshops of up to 60 people.

100 to 300 people

This is the band in highest demand for company dinners, client presentations and one-day events.

Venue Area Room Banquet Reception Theatre
Casino de Madrid Sol Salón Real (12 m ceiling) 224 350 300
COAM Chueca Sala Oíza, main area 250 370 n/a

Shoko Madrid La Latina Gran Sala 180 600 150
El Jardín de Arzábal Atocha Full terrace (900 m²) 200 400 n/a

When to choose each one. The Salón Real at the Casino is the classic choice for a mid-sized gala dinner, with high ceilings and a members' club feel. COAM, the Madrid architects' association, has three plenary rooms on different floors, useful if the day combines talks and workshops. Espacio Ventas is a 2,000 m² industrial building on two floors, with two twin rooms of about 300 m² and nine small rooms: it works for product presentations with projection mapping or immersive technology. Shoko has a 5-metre revolving platform that bears 7.5 tonnes, designed for showing vehicles. Casa de América, in the Palacio de Linares, offers an amphitheatre for 330 people facing Cibeles.

300 to 800 people

This is where the large gala dinners and staged launches sit. It is the band where production weighs most: stage, lighting and sound for hundreds of people.

Venue Area Room Banquet Reception Theatre
Galería de Cristal, Palacio de Cibeles Cibeles Gallery (2,420 m², 25 m high) 800 1,200 600

La Casa de Mónico A Coruña road, km 9.5 El Invernadero (362 m²) 476 750 600

When to choose each one. The Galería de Cristal covers 2,420 m² under the glass roof of the Palacio de Cibeles, 25 metres high; its availability depends on the City Council's activity in the building. The Salón de Baile at the Círculo de Bellas Artes has a 10-metre ceiling and pairs with the rooftop, which holds 400 people for a reception. The Palacio Neptuno, with its glass dome, is a stone's throw from the Prado. Duques de Pastrana combines rooms and gardens on one site in the north of the city, with a metro station 50 metres away. MEEU, inside Chamartín station itself, brings together pavilions, studios and 16 meeting rooms: it suits conventions that mix a plenary, filming and workshops. At the Thyssen and the Royal Collections Gallery, many spaces are only available once the museum has closed.

More than 800 people

For large conventions, anniversary galas and brand events with thousands of guests. The key here is logistics: access, coaches, cloakroom, back-up kitchen and evacuation.

* The source gives a single capacity per space, with no breakdown by format: the real figure depends on the layout.

When to choose each one. The Teatro Real allows receptions in the second-floor salons and dinners in its restaurant and adjoining rooms, but use of the main auditorium depends on the artistic calendar. The Railway Museum, in the former Delicias station, offers dinners among historic trains and an outdoor track yard for 750 people at a reception. The Bernabéu, with its retractable roof, puts dinner on the pitch and adds services such as the stadium tour. The Pabellón de Cristal has 20,200 m² over three floors, with capacities per floor of 3,160, 1,710 and 1,700 people according to the Madrid Convention Bureau. The Caja Mágica, designed by Dominique Perrault, also has retractable roofs and arenas holding 1,600 to 12,442 people theatre-style. La Casa de Mónico is a 1946 estate with an English garden: for outdoor galas from spring to early autumn.

What the hire usually includes and what it does not

  • Usually included: the space for a set number of hours, basic furniture, cleaning and sometimes security or room staff.
  • Usually extra: build and breakdown outside those hours, AV, staging, catering (often with an exclusive supplier), cloakroom, insurance and special permits.
  • Always ask: whether there is an exclusive caterer or AV supplier, what time the space must be cleared and what can be hung or rigged.

How to choose: five steps

  1. Set the format and the real number of guests. With and without partners, with and without staff.
  2. Filter by capacity with a margin. Look for venues whose maximum in your format is at least 20% above your number.
  3. Check date and opening hours. Museums, theatres and public buildings have their own calendars.
  4. Work out the logistics. Distance from the hotel, coaches, access for loading and unloading.
  5. Visit and draw a plan. With stage, tables, bars and circulation routes drawn to scale.

Site visit checklist

  • Licensed capacity and evacuation plan.
  • Loading access, goods lifts and build times.
  • Available power supply and rigging points.
  • Kitchen or prep area for the caterer.
  • Enough toilets for the number of guests.
  • Accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
  • Cloakroom and reception area.
  • Noise restrictions and closing time.
  • Mobile coverage and wifi for the technical team.
  • Plan B if part of the event is outdoors.

Frequently asked questions

Which unique venue in Madrid has the largest capacity?

Of the venues in this guide, the Caja Mágica: its Estadio 1 holds 12,442 people theatre-style according to its Madrid Convention Bureau listing. For a dinner, the pitch at the Bernabéu reaches 5,000 people according to Real Madrid's website, and the central hall of the Railway Museum holds 1,200 for a banquet and 2,800 for a reception.

Where can I hold a gala dinner for 500 people in Madrid?

Based on published figures: the Galería de Cristal at the Palacio de Cibeles (800 for a banquet), the Sala Polivalente at the Complejo Duques de Pastrana (740), the Railway Museum (1,200 in the central hall) or the Bernabéu. The choice depends on the layout, the stage, the date and the closing time.

Which unique venue suits 50 people?

For small groups, good options are the Glorieta and Puerta del Sol salons at the Casino de Madrid (80 and 100 for a banquet), the Salón Oriental or the Comedor de Gala at the Palacio de Santoña (72 for a banquet), the VIP room at the Palacio Neptuno or, outside the city, the Châteauform' estate in Pezuela de las Torres, designed for meetings of up to 60 people.

Why is the real capacity lower than the brochure figure?

Because the brochure gives the maximum with the room empty. A stage, screens, a technical booth, bars, a dance floor, wider tables or evacuation routes all take away places. Before confirming, we always draw a scale floor plan with the actual layout.

Do Madrid museums hire out spaces to companies?

Some do, on their own terms. The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Royal Collections Gallery publish their spaces, and many are only available once the museum has closed. At the Thyssen, for example, after-hours use is in the afternoon and evening, with a standard five-hour hire.

Are there unique venues outside the city?

Yes. La Casa de Mónico, on the A Coruña road at kilometre 9.5, has a 30,000 m² garden for up to 2,000 people. The Châteauform' estate in Pezuela de las Torres is about 50 minutes from Madrid. They add a coach journey, but you gain outdoor space and privacy.
